 2023 SCH Annual Dinner

There were 35 members and guests attending. Outgoing president, Greg Anthony welcomed all to the 93rd Ski Club Hochgebirge annual dinner. Greg introduced 2023 new members Chris Macek, Sinan Kunt and Mark O’Connor. Additionally he introduced new nominee Janet White who was the guest of Nick Burke. As well as speaker Bill Lynn and wife Sara.

Greg also reported that longtime member Al Hobart who joined the club in 1969, passed away in 2023. Greg shared an account from Mo Carne wife of member Fred Carne. She reports that Fred will not be renewing his membership. Fred was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2021. The disease has progressed rapidly with significant cognitive  issues. He is currently in an assisted living facility.

RJ Lyman immediately nominated Fred Carne for Gatekeeper status. His proposal was seconded and confirmed by the members in attendance.

Before supper Greg then read the following:

Now for something completely different. I would like to ask everyone to join hands and bow your heads:

Don't get nervous!

“Snow Gods bless this food upon our plate,

And bless our SCH forefathers,

Who on this Tuesday 93 years ago,

started this fellowship.

Snow Gods forgive us

For we have lusted,

For endless powder days.

Snow Gods forgive us,

Our unwaxed skis,

And that our edges grippeth not,

For we have failed to file them.

Snow Gods lead us not

Into total gearheadedness.

Remind us of the pure joy,

of schussing.

Forgive us our faceplants,

As we have forgiven,

those who have faceplanted before us.

Lead us into your paradise,

Of thigh deep powder,

Forever and ever.

Amen

Now raise a glass: Hail To Ski Club Hochgebirge”

During desert Greg introduced the new and old faces on the 2024 executive committee and sub committees.

Nick de Sherbinin will be guiding us by taking over the presidency for one year.

Lane Mann will be assuming the duties of vice president (perhaps the only office he hasn't held in his 16 or 17 years of service to our club).

Mark O’Connor will be handling our finances as treasurer. He has spearheaded a number of changes such as an online payment system so that we can extricate your money more efficiently.

Greg Anthony will be taking over the secretary’s position and continuing as contributing editor of the Hochie Hearsay as well as reservations clerk.

Lili Winslow will be staying on as our stalwart race committee chairman.

Krystian Macek with multiple home renovation skills will be assuming the duties of house committee chairman.

After a short introduction Greg then introduced the evenings speaker Bill Lynn executive Director of the Herreshoff Marine Museum. Bill then gave an interesting presentation with slides about the history of the museum.

After Bill finished up with questions from the members, dinner was adjourned.
