Message from the President

Nick de Sherbinin (m. 1999), from lowly Gate Judge to esteemed 2 time President

I’m honored to take the helm of Ski Club Hochgebirge from Greg Anthony, serving as president once again. Long-time members may remember that I served as president of the Club twenty years ago. It’s a pleasure to find the Club in stable financial condition with an active membership bringing renewed vitality to the Hochie Hilton. Greg has moved over to Club secretary duties and long-time treasurer Lane Mann volunteered for the Vice President position. Both bring what the business world calls ‘institutional knowledge’ to Club operations and we all benefit from it. Mark O’Connor has ably taken on the role of treasurer and House Chair Krystian Macek is becoming familiar with the maintenance challenges of a 75-year-old house. Lili Winslow remains as race chair, having successfully overseen the recent 84th running of the Hochgebirge Challenge Cup at Cannon Mountain’s Mittersill race course.

My priorities for the Club are to continue our financial viability, maintain the Hochie Hilton as needed, to grow membership in a manageable way, and to ensure that the Challenge Cup race continues to be held at Cannon.

A note about the race: we are aware that race participation is dwindling for a variety of reasons and the Club is determined to increase participation. This may require opening up the race to more than just Sise Cup Masters racers. As we research this possibility, I invite interested members to get in touch to share ideas and stay informed on progress in this area.

I hope that members feel free to introduce like-minded skiers to the Club, and to stay involved and make contributions as opportunities arise. Stop by skiclubhochgebirge.org to stay informed and entertained. You’ll be surprised how much great reading is a click or tap away!
